Baby's First Yogurt with Banana (Sweet & Creamy)
A simple and nutritious introduction to dairy for babies! Plain yogurt is mixed with sweet mashed banana for a creamy, tangy, and delicious first food that's packed with probiotics and essential nutrients.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup plain whole milk yogurt (unsweetened, preferably full-fat Greek or regular yogurt)
- 1/3 ripe banana (approximately 2 tablespoons mashed)
Instructions
Gather your ingredients: Measure out 1/4 cup of plain, whole milk yogurt and have 1/3 of a ripe banana ready.
Peel the banana: Peel the banana and place the 1/3 portion into a small, clean bowl.
Mash the banana: Using a fork, thoroughly mash the banana until it forms a smooth purée. Ensure there are no large lumps.
Check the banana's texture: The mashed banana should be very smooth, almost like baby food consistency. This is important for babies just starting on solids.
Add the yogurt: Spoon the 1/4 cup of plain yogurt into the bowl with the mashed banana.
Combine thoroughly: Using a clean spoon, gently stir the yogurt and banana together.
Mix until smooth: Continue stirring until the banana and yogurt are completely combined and the mixture is smooth and consistent in color.
Check for consistency: The final mixture should be creamy and easy for a baby to swallow. If using regular yogurt and it seems too thin, Greek yogurt can be used next time.
Serve immediately: Offer the banana yogurt to your baby on a spoon. Make sure the temperature is appropriate (not too cold).
Observe baby's reaction: Watch your baby's reaction to the taste and texture. It's okay if they make faces – it's a new experience!
Offer small amounts: Start with small spoonfuls and allow your baby to eat at their own pace. Never force feed.
Clean up any mess: Yogurt can be messy! Be prepared with a bib and a damp cloth for easy clean-up.
Store leftovers (if any): If there are any leftovers, store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. However, it's best to prepare a fresh serving each time.
Enjoy the moment: Enjoy this special moment introducing your baby to new flavors and textures!
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required for feeding.
- Ensure the banana is thoroughly mashed to avoid choking hazards.
- Check for any signs of allergic reaction to dairy (rash, hives, vomiting, diarrhea).
- Introduce new foods one at a time to easily identify potential allergens.
