Apple Cinnamon Cozy Oats
A warm and comforting bowl of oatmeal with sweet apple and a hint of cinnamon, perfect for little ones.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup rolled oats (or quick oats)
- 3/4 cup water (or half water, half whole milk)
- 1/4 cup finely chopped or grated apple (peeled)
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon unsalted butter (optional, or a splash of milk/formula)
Instructions
Gather all ingredients: oats, water or milk, apple, cinnamon, and butter (if using).
Peel and finely chop or grate the apple. For younger toddlers, grating is recommended for easier eating.
In a small saucepan, combine the rolled oats (or quick oats) and water (or water and milk mixture).
Add the finely chopped or grated apple to the saucepan.
Sprinkle the ground cinnamon into the saucepan.
Stir all ingredients together well to ensure the oats and apple are evenly distributed.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a gentle boil, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 5 minutes (or according to oat package directions).
Continue to stir frequently as the oatmeal cooks, until the oats are soft and the apple is tender.
If the oatmeal becomes too thick, add a splash more water or milk to reach the desired consistency.
Remove the saucepan from the heat.
If using, stir in the teaspoon of unsalted butter until melted and fully incorporated. Alternatively, stir in a splash of milk or formula.
Let the oatmeal cool slightly to a safe temperature before serving. Test the temperature before feeding to your toddler.
Serve the Apple Cinnamon Cozy Oats in a bowl. You can spoon-feed your toddler or allow them to self-feed with a spoon. For younger toddlers, spread a thin layer on a plate or offer soft toast fingers dipped in the oatmeal.
Enjoy!
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required during cooking and cooling.
- Ensure the oatmeal is cooled to a safe temperature before serving to prevent burns.
- Chop or grate the apple very finely to prevent choking hazards, especially for younger toddlers.
- Check for any allergic reactions when introducing new foods.
