Peachy Cottage Cheese Mash
A simple and nutritious mash combining the sweetness of peaches with the protein and calcium of cottage cheese, perfect for introducing new textures and flavors to your little one.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup full-fat cottage cheese (small curd, low or no added salt)
- 1 ripe peach (or 1/2 cup canned peaches in natural juice, drained)
Instructions
Gather your ingredients: cottage cheese and a ripe peach (or drained canned peaches).
If using a fresh peach, wash it thoroughly.
Peel the peach: You can blanch the peach in boiling water for 30 seconds to make peeling easier, or simply peel with a knife or vegetable peeler. Remove the pit.
Chop the peach: Cut the peeled peach into small, manageable pieces.
Mash the peach: Place the peach pieces in a small bowl and use a fork to mash them. Aim for a fairly smooth consistency with a few small, soft lumps.
Prepare the cottage cheese: If using cottage cheese with added salt, rinse it in a fine-mesh strainer under cold water to reduce sodium. Drain well.
Combine ingredients: Add the cottage cheese to the mashed peach in the bowl.
Mix gently: Use the fork to gently mix the cottage cheese with the mashed peach. Slightly mash the cottage cheese curds into the peach puree.
Check consistency: The mixture should be a lumpy mash, with the peach puree coating the cottage cheese curds.
Adjust texture (optional): If the mixture is too lumpy for your baby, briefly pulse it in a blender or food processor to achieve a smoother consistency. Be careful not to over-blend.
Taste test: Check the temperature and taste a small amount to ensure it's suitable for your baby.
Serve immediately: Offer the Peachy Cottage Cheese Mash to your baby.
Observe your baby: Watch for any signs of allergies or discomfort during and after feeding.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required during preparation and feeding.
- Ensure the peach is soft and well-mashed to prevent choking.
- Check for any allergic reactions to dairy or peach.
- If using canned peaches, choose those packed in natural juice and rinse them thoroughly to remove excess sugar.
