Cheesy Broccoli Baby Mash
A creamy and flavorful mash of steamed broccoli and potato with a touch of mild cheese, perfect for introducing new flavors and textures to your little one.
Ingredients
- 1 small potato, peeled and diced
- 1/2 cup broccoli florets (fresh or frozen)
- 2 tablespoons grated mild cheddar cheese (or similar melting cheese)
- 2 tablespoons formula or breast milk
- 1 teaspoon unsalted butter (optional)
Instructions
Gather all ingredients: Peel and dice the potato into small, even pieces. Measure out the broccoli florets and cheese.
Prepare steamer: Fill a pot with about an inch of water and bring to a boil. Place a steamer basket inside the pot, ensuring the water doesn't touch the basket.
Steam potato: Add the diced potato to the steamer basket. Cover the pot and steam for 5 minutes.
Add broccoli: Add the broccoli florets to the steamer basket with the potato. Cover the pot again.
Steam until soft: Continue steaming the potato and broccoli for another 5 minutes, or until both are very soft and easily mashable. Check with a fork; they should pierce easily.
Transfer to bowl: Carefully remove the steamer basket from the pot. Transfer the steamed potato and broccoli to a mixing bowl.
Add butter (optional): If using butter, add it to the bowl with the hot vegetables.
Add cheese and milk: Add the grated cheese and formula/breast milk to the bowl.
Mash thoroughly: Use a fork or potato masher to mash the ingredients together until smooth and creamy. Ensure the broccoli is broken down into small, manageable pieces. For a smoother puree, use a blender.
Adjust consistency: If the mash is too thick, add a little more formula/breast milk to reach your desired consistency.
Cool to safe temperature: Allow the mash to cool to a safe temperature before serving. Test a small amount to ensure it's not too hot.
Serve: Spoon-feed the Cheesy Broccoli Baby Mash to your baby.
Storage: Refrigerate any leftovers in an airtight container and use within 24 hours. Reheat gently before serving.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required for steaming and mashing.
