Cinnamon French Toast Fingers
Soft and easy-to-hold French toast sticks perfect for little hands, made with whole wheat bread and a touch of cinnamon.
Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 1/4 cup milk (breast milk, formula, or whole cow’s milk)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 slices whole wheat bread (soft)
- 1–2 teaspoons unsalted butter or oil for cooking
Instructions
Gather all ingredients: egg, milk, cinnamon, vanilla (if using), bread, and butter or oil.
In a shallow bowl, crack the egg and whisk it well with a fork until light and frothy.
Pour the milk into the bowl with the egg. Breast milk, formula, or whole cow's milk can be used. Stir to combine.
Add the ground cinnamon and vanilla extract (if using) to the egg and milk mixture. Whisk until everything is well blended.
Lay the slices of whole wheat bread flat on a cutting board. Using a butter knife or kid-safe knife (with adult supervision), cut each slice into 3 or 4 finger-sized sticks.
Dip each bread stick into the egg mixture, ensuring both sides are fully coated. Let the bread soak for a few seconds on each side to absorb the liquid, but don’t let it get too soggy.
Heat the butter or oil in a non-stick skillet over medium heat. Ensure the pan is hot enough before adding the bread sticks.
Carefully place the soaked bread sticks in the heated skillet, making sure not to overcrowd the pan. Work in batches if necessary.
Cook the bread sticks for about 2 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown and the egg is cooked through. Flip gently with a spatula.
Remove the cooked French toast sticks from the skillet and place them on a plate lined with a paper towel to absorb any excess oil.
Let the French toast sticks cool slightly before serving. Ensure they are not too hot for your little one to handle.
Cut the sticks into smaller pieces if needed for easier chewing, depending on your child's eating skills.
Serve the Cinnamon French Toast Fingers as finger food. Offer them with a side of unsweetened applesauce or plain yogurt for dipping, if desired.
