Sweet Sunshine Carrot Purée
A naturally sweet and smooth carrot purée, perfect as a first food for babies. Packed with beta-carotene for healthy eyesight and a strong immune system.
Ingredients
- 2 medium carrots, peeled and chopped
- Water for steaming (or breast milk/formula for thinning)
Instructions
Wash and peel the carrots thoroughly.
Chop the peeled carrots into small, uniform pieces (about 1/2 inch thick) for even cooking.
Place a steamer basket inside a small saucepan.
Add enough water to the saucepan so that it sits just below the bottom of the steamer basket. Ensure the water doesn't touch the carrots directly.
Add the chopped carrots to the steamer basket.
Cover the saucepan with a lid.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat, then reduce the heat to medium and steam the carrots for 10-12 minutes, or until they are very tender and easily pierced with a fork.
Carefully remove the steamer basket from the saucepan.
Transfer the steamed carrots to a blender or food processor.
Blend the carrots until smooth. If the purée is too thick, add a small amount of breast milk, formula, or the water used for steaming to achieve the desired consistency.
Continue blending until the purée is completely smooth and free of lumps.
Let the purée cool to a warm temperature before serving.
Serve a small amount of the purée on a baby spoon.
Store any leftover purée in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 48 hours, or freeze in ice cube trays for longer storage (thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving).
