Avocado Egg Toast Bites
Soft whole-wheat toast topped with creamy avocado and chopped egg, perfect for little fingers and growing bodies.
Ingredients
- 1 slice soft whole grain bread
- 1/4 ripe avocado
- 1 hard-boiled egg (or 2 tablespoons scrambled egg)
- 1/4 teaspoon lemon juice (optional)
- Pinch of paprika (optional)
Instructions
Adult Supervision: Ensure an adult is present during all steps, especially when using a toaster or knife.
Step 1: Toast the bread lightly. It should be slightly firm but still soft enough for easy chewing.
Step 2: Let the toast cool slightly. This prevents the avocado from browning too quickly.
Step 3: While the toast cools, halve the avocado and remove the pit. Scoop out the flesh into a small bowl.
Step 4: Add the lemon juice (if using) to the avocado in the bowl.
Step 5: Mash the avocado with a fork until smooth with a few small, soft chunks. Adjust the consistency to your child's preference.
Step 6: If using a hard-boiled egg, peel it carefully.
Step 7: Finely chop the hard-boiled egg into very small pieces. Ensure there are no large chunks to prevent choking.
Step 8: Spread the mashed avocado evenly onto the cooled toast.
Step 9: Sprinkle the chopped egg (or scrambled egg) over the avocado-covered toast.
Step 10: Gently press the egg pieces into the avocado so they adhere well.
Step 11: If using, sprinkle a tiny pinch of paprika over the top for a touch of flavor.
Step 12: With a knife, cut the toast into small squares or strips that are easy for your toddler to pick up and eat.
Step 13: Serve immediately. Avocado can brown if left out for too long.
Step 14: Discard any uneaten portions after 1-2 hours for food safety.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required for toasting and cutting.
- Ensure egg is thoroughly cooked to avoid salmonella risk.
- Cut into small, manageable pieces to prevent choking.
