Fruity Cereal Swirl: Apple, Strawberry & Peach Purée
A sweet and slightly tangy purée of apple, strawberry, and peach, gently thickened with baby cereal for added nutrients and a satisfying texture. Perfect for introducing new flavors and textures to your little one!
Ingredients
- 4 ripe strawberries, hulled (green tops removed)
- 1 ripe peach or nectarine, peeled and sliced
- 1 small apple, peeled and diced
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1 tablespoon baby rice cereal (or oatmeal cereal)
Instructions
Prepare the fruit: Wash the strawberries, peach, and apple thoroughly. Hull the strawberries by removing the green tops. Peel and slice the peach or nectarine.
Dice the apple: Peel and dice the apple into small, manageable pieces.
Combine fruits in saucepan: In a small saucepan, combine the diced apple and sliced peach.
Add water: Add 2 tablespoons of water to the saucepan.
Simmer the fruits: Place the saucepan over low heat and simmer for about 5 minutes, or until the apple and peach slices are soft.
Add strawberries: Add the hulled strawberries to the saucepan during the last minute of cooking. Strawberries soften quickly.
Steam alternative: Alternatively, steam all the fruits together for about 5 minutes until soft.
Transfer to blender: Carefully transfer the softened fruits and any remaining water from the saucepan into a blender or food processor.
Add baby cereal: Add 1 tablespoon of baby rice cereal (or oatmeal cereal) to the blender.
Purée until smooth: Blend the mixture until it is completely smooth and creamy. Ensure there are no lumps.
Check consistency: If the purée is too thick, add a little water or breast milk/formula to thin it out to the desired consistency.
Cool and test: Allow the purée to cool slightly before serving. Always test the temperature before feeding it to your baby to ensure it is not too hot.
Serve immediately or store: Serve the purée immediately or store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. Because of the cereal, it's best to serve relatively soon after making to avoid over-thickening.
Reheat if needed: If refrigerated, you can warm the purée slightly before serving, but avoid overheating. Stir well before serving.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required during all stages of preparation and feeding.
- Ensure the purée is smooth and free of lumps to prevent choking.
- Introduce new foods one at a time and watch for any allergic reactions, especially when introducing strawberries.
- Check the temperature of the purée before feeding to avoid burns.
