Little Green Pea Power Purée
A simple and nutritious purée made with sweet green peas, perfect as a first food for babies. Packed with vitamins and minerals, it's a great way to introduce new flavors and textures.
Ingredients
- 1 cup frozen green peas (or fresh shelled peas)
- 1/4 cup water (for blending, adjust as needed)
Instructions
Gather your ingredients: 1 cup of frozen or fresh peas and 1/4 cup of water.
If using frozen peas, place them in a small saucepan.
Add enough water to cover the peas.
Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 5-6 minutes, or until the peas are very soft and bright green. If using fresh peas, simmer until tender.
Drain the peas well, reserving a few tablespoons of the cooking water.
Transfer the cooked peas to a blender or food processor.
Add 2-3 tablespoons of the reserved cooking water to the blender.
Blend the peas until completely smooth. Add more water, 1 tablespoon at a time, until you reach your desired consistency.
For an ultra-smooth purée (optional), press the purée through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any skins.
Let the purée cool to a safe temperature before serving.
Taste the purée and add a tiny bit of breast milk or formula, if needed, for added sweetness (optional).
Serve the purée as a standalone first food or mix it into baby cereal.
Store any leftover purée in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
Safety Notes
- Adult supervision required during cooking and blending.
- Ensure the purée is cooled to a safe temperature before feeding to the baby.
- Introduce peas alone the first few times to ensure tolerance.
