Berry Orchard Purée (Blueberry, Pear & Banana)
A vibrant and nutritious three-fruit purée perfect for introducing new flavors and textures to your little one. This blend combines the tartness of blueberries with the sweetness of pear and banana for a balanced and delicious treat.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
- 1 ripe pear, peeled, cored, and chopped
- 1 small ripe banana, peeled and chopped
- 1 tablespoon water (if using fresh blueberries)
Instructions
Prepare Fresh Blueberries (if using): Rinse the fresh blueberries thoroughly under cool water.
Soften Blueberries (if using fresh): Place the rinsed blueberries in a small saucepan with 1 tablespoon of water.
Simmer Blueberries (if using fresh): Heat the saucepan over low heat for 2-3 minutes, or until the blueberries start to soften and their skins begin to burst. Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
Thaw Frozen Blueberries (if using): If using frozen blueberries, thaw them completely. You can microwave them for 15-20 seconds or let them sit at room temperature.
Combine Fruits: Transfer the softened blueberries (including any liquid from the saucepan) or thawed blueberries to a blender or food processor.
Add Pear: Add the peeled, cored, and chopped pear to the blender.
Add Banana: Add the peeled and chopped banana to the blender.
Blend Until Smooth: Secure the lid of the blender and blend the mixture on high speed until completely smooth and creamy. This should take about 30-60 seconds.
Check Texture: Check the purée for any remaining lumps or blueberry skins. If necessary, blend for a few more seconds.
Strain (Optional): For an extra smooth texture, especially for younger babies, pour the purée through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing down with the back of a spoon to extract all the liquid and remove any remaining solids.
Cool (if needed): If the purée is warm from cooking the blueberries, allow it to cool to room temperature.
Serve Immediately: Serve the purée immediately to your little one.
Store Leftovers: Store any leftover purée in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours. The banana may cause some browning, but it is still safe to eat.
Freeze for Later: For longer storage, freeze the purée in ice cube trays or small freezer-safe containers for up to 1 month. Thaw in the refrigerator before serving.
Safety Notes
- Always supervise your child during feeding.
- Ensure the purée is smooth and free of any large pieces to prevent choking hazards.
- Check for any allergic reactions when introducing new foods. Start with a small amount and observe for any signs of allergies.
- If using frozen blueberries, ensure they are fully thawed before blending.
